Three cheers for 4Shared

Noticed in the right hand sidebar on the 4shared site:

Thank you so much 4shared! and also thanks to all the corporate advertisers who promptly pulled their advertisements when they realized that they were financing copyright infringement. Also, especial thanks to PC McLinn  http://www.ninc.com/blog/index.php/archives/a-call-to-protect-copyrights

I'd love to see 4shared.com stand up and take measures to PREVENT copyright infringement, rather than relying on the victims of it to police their site.

No reasonable person could look at the thousands and thousands of books available there and believe that the copyright holders had actually given permission.

So, while I do cheer the advertisers for withdrawing their financial support, I do not cheer 4shared.com.

Thanks so much for your persistence, Patricia McLinn.

I assumed that the disappearance of most of the advertising, and the appearance of the "report this" notice was due to your efforts.

If readers were to be empowered to report suspicious files, this would help authors. I confess, though, I did not click the link to report a presumably stolen work. I'll have to go back and try again.

Best wishes,
