I think what made me crankiest about this was that they compared sharing digital books to borrowing from the library.
They're SO wrong. As you know, first: there are unlimited copies of digital books, and only one paper copy at the library. Two: you don't get to KEEP your library book forever and ever.
*sigh*
In the library, if patrons request a book, the library purchases it. If lots of patrons want to borrow the book, the library buys extra copies to keep up with demand.
Moreover, the library tips off other libraries, so they too purchase copies of the book.
